One of the few good things to come out of 2020 is the return of Doves and their poignant new single ‘Cathedrals of the Mind’ is up there with their best and it arrives as Far Out’s ‘Track of the Day’.
The three-piece’s first record since 2009 is to be released on September 11th and The Universal Want is shaping up to be a real barnstormer, which is well worth the long eleven-year wait.
Doves reunited last year for a special show at London’s Royal Albert Hall in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust before headlining a plethora of festivals including Kendal Calling and are heading back out on the road next year in support of their upcoming fifth record, which can’t come round soon enough.
Guitarist Jez Williams says of the new track : “The song stems from a single hook, which developed to evoke this expansive internal monologue, this never-ending chasm of thought.
“Subconsciously, through words thrown against it and made to fit, it came to be about someone always being on your mind. The listener can form their own ideas. For me, it was about the loss of Bowie.”
