Donald Trump drags Stephen Colbert into a bin in whacky AI video
Donald Trump has one-upped his recent comment that Stephen Colbert is a “jerk” in a new AI video, which sees the president pick up the former late-night show host and drop him into a bin.
Colbert’s final show aired on May 21st after CBS cancelled the long-running series in what they deemed a “purely financial decision”.
However, around the time of the cancellation, CBS’s owner, Paramount, settled a $16 million lawsuit with the president, described by Colbert on air as a “big fat bribe”. As such, many believe the show’s end was politically motivated, considering also Colbert’s continued criticism of the Trump administration.
While Colbert kept it professional on the final show, keeping Trump’s name out of his mouth (albeit suggesting he is a threat to democracy in the USA), Trump hasn’t been afraid to call out Colbert online.
When it was confirmed last year that Colbert was out the door and the show would not be renewed, Trump took to Truth Social to write, “I absolutely love that Colbert got fired. His talent was even less than his ratings.”
After the final episode, Trump had more criticism for Colbert, writing online, “Colbert is finally finished at CBS. Amazing that he lasted so long! No talent, no ratings, no life. He was like a dead person. You could take any person off of the street and they would be better than this total jerk. Thank goodness he’s finally gone!”
Trump wasn’t finished there. The politician went on to share an AI-generated video of himself grabbing Colbert mid-show and throwing him into a bin, as the audience clapped along. He then danced solo to the iconic Village People song, ‘YMCA’.
This comes after long-time Trump dissenter Bruce Springsteen made an appearance on the penultimate episode of The Late Show to directly blame Trump for Colbert leaving CBS.
Before playing his protest anthem, ‘Streets of Minneapolis’, Springsteen said, “Stephen, I’m here in support tonight of Stephen because you’re the first guy in America whose lost his show because we’ve got a president who can’t take a joke. And because Larry and David Ellison feel they need to kiss his ass to get what they want.”
Colbert welcomed Beatles legend Paul McCartney to the show to play out the final episode with a rendition of the 1967 classic, ‘Hello, Goodbye’.
