Dolly Parton defends the release of politically-charged single ‘World On Fire’: “They’re all full of it!”

Revered country singer Dolly Parton has defended her decision to release the polarising single ‘World on Fire’, stating that world leaders are “all full of it”.

Discussing the single, Parton adds that “[world leader are] not really concerned about us – they’re concerned about position. And I wasn’t getting into that world of politics any more than to say, ‘Hey people, wake up!’ This is the only world we got. We’ve gotta take care of it.”

Parton premiered the song earlier this year at the ACM Awards, donning a dress adorned with depictions of various continents to accompany the song’s powerful statement.

While the live performance did not feature any guest stars, the album associated with the song boasts collaborations with rock legends like Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr of the Beatles, Sting, Steve Perry of Journey, and Nikki Sixx from Mötley Crüe.

During an interview with The Independent, Parton also delved into the legacy she hopes to leave behind, expressing a desire to be remembered as someone who took her work seriously but not herself.

Parton emphasised her wish to be known as someone who “who brought books to children all over the world. For the fact that I managed to make a living doing something I love to do. And as a caring, giving, working girl.”

When discussing the influx of societal and identity politics, Parton wishes for nothing more than simple harmony. “I worry about human beings,” she says. “I have a lot of fans on both sides – Republican, Democrat and straight down the middle. They can’t have Christmas dinner together because they’re having a fight at the table!”
