Aussie trio DMA’s have shared a new video for their track ‘We Are Midnight’, ahead of the release of their new EP, Love You Unconditionally, Sure Am Going To Miss You. The new record provides a surprise follow up to the band’s third studio album The Glow, which was released in 2020. The album hit number four in the UK album charts that same year.
In a recent interview, guitarist Jonny Took spoke about how ‘We Are Midnight’ came about: “I just remember sitting on the couch in Melbourne and playing my partner’s guitar when we’d just started going out. If anyone is listening to a song about new love, it’s pretty relatable and open and we wanted to capture that through the music.”
The music video for ‘We Are Midnight’ is comprised of VHS-style footage of the band — mostly of their life during the lockdown. Surprisingly we see a lot of smiles, sunshine, and signs of friendship.
Of the self-directed video, Took said: “It was giving a snapshot of each of our personal lives through the pandemic. I feel like it’s quite an innocent video. We’re not a big talking band really, we don’t say much at gigs and we don’t give a lot away so I think it’s nice for people to see a more personal side to us.”
According to Took, the new EP, Noisy As Fuck, is a gift for those original fans who have supported the band since its inception: “It was born out of the pandemic but also our third album,” Took said.
“We had strayed away from our original sound with The Glow, which was natural because we were working with the producer Stuart Price who is very dynamic and mostly known for his electronic stuff which was important for us to explore.”
I Love You Unconditionally, Sure Am Going To Miss You is out now. From October, DMA’s will also be embarking on an extensive UK tour.
