Divorce release new single ‘Gears’ and share major news
Divorce has released their first single of 2024, ‘Gears’, a fun indie rock tune in line with the band’s already established sound.
The new song shows the band’s ability to play with tempo and tone, as what starts as a slow and melancholic track erupts into a frenzy of distorted guitars and crashing cymbals. It’s a lot of fun to listen to and will undoubtedly be a tune that fans of the band will welcome with open arms.
“’Gears’ was written when I’d just moved to London and was working very long hours whilst trying to keep up with increasing band commitments for Divorce,” said frontman Felix Mackenzie-Barrow when discussing the new song, “I was spending all of my time working or playing shows and couldn’t maintain any kind of social life or keep up with the spending a social life felt like it would cost. The song came out of those frustrations.”
The tone of the songs rings through, as compared to some of the previous songs that Divorce has released, such as ‘Sex & The Millennium Bridge’ and ‘Eat My Words’, the band take a much more manic approach to their writing. The song sounds like it should be listened to in a hurry and is hard to settle to (in the best possible way).
Alongside the new track, Divorce have also announced that they will be going on a UK headline tour which will see them play their biggest headline show to date at London’s Islington Assembly Hall in October 2023. They will also return to their hometown to play two shows at the Nottingham Bodega.
Divorce is currently gearing up to go on tour with Everything Everything, supporting them across the UK, including in cities such as Leeds, Manchester, Bristol, Glasgow and London.
All in all, it looks as though the future is bright for Divorce. The song ‘Gears’ stays true to who the band have established themselves as while also flaunting their instrumental ability to bring forward a slightly more unhinged tone. The narrative embedded within the track comes through clearly and is a testament to the band’s songwriting ability.
Pair that with the array of big gigs that await them in 2024, and it looks as though Divorce could be on to a winner.
