Deep Purple announce new album ‘Splat!’: “Music for the end of humanity”

Deep Purple has announced a new album of “music for the end of humanity” set for release on July 3rd, titled Splat!

The band has once again teamed up with renowned producer Bob Ezrin to craft an album that “draws on the sound and attitude that has always set Deep Purple apart from the rest.” Ezrin is known elsewhere for his work with Kiss, Pink Floyd, Lou Reed, and Alice Cooper.

Following up their last release, 2024’s =1, the band has hinted that Splat! will be “the heaviest Deep Purple album in many years.”

Looking forward to the release, frontman Ian Gillan has shared, “Where we are now with this incarnation of Deep Purple feels very much like a very ‘now’ version of Deep Purple as it was in the seventies.”

Since their formation in 1968, the band has sold more than 120 million albums. However, rather than looking at the past, the new batch of songs are influenced by our current political climate.

In this way, Splat! promises to exploree “the end of humanity not in any crude apocalyptic sense but as a metamorphosis beyond physical existence.”

Gillan added that the band “are very much back in with material that is compatible with ‘Highway Star’, ‘Smoke on the Water’, ‘Lazy’ – the dynamics, the balance, and the fun of the music we made from 1969 to 1973.”

The band shows no signs of slowing down: They will continue their extensive 2026 touring schedule, a staggering 86 shows across 28 countries, spanning three continents.

On their travels, the band recently paid a special visit to an especially high-profile fan, Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, who has cited them as her favourite band alongside Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden.
