David Spade reveals he almost pulled a gun on autograph hunters

Former Saturday Night Live cast member David Spade has revealed that he once almost pulled a gun on a group of men who were searching for his autograph after a show.

In the most recent episode of his podcast, Fly on the Wall, which he co-hosts with Wayne’s World star Dana Carvey, the actor and comedian revealed that he was caught off guard by some people who had followed him home after performing at the Improv in Los Angeles, leading him to believe that he was going to be mugged.

“I’m going up this crummy little street, which is pretty skinny,” Spade said to Carvey. “And there’s two cars behind me. I don’t even notice. They’re kind of on my ass. I’m like, ‘Oh shit.’ It’s pitch-black up there. It’s a perfect place for carjacking [or a] robbery.”

He continued by telling Carvey how there were five men in the car that pulled up alongside him, and they wound down their window to ask him if they could sign merchandise, including some Funko Pop collectable models, to which Spade responded: “Get the fuck out of here.”

He continued: “They almost got sprayed. And then I went into my driveway. I was kind of nervous now. I go, if they come behind me, I’m gonna get the gun. Just show it to him like, ‘Hey, this is for real. Now you’re in my house. You can’t do this.’”

Spade would carry on by making the argument that the men in the cars were not genuine fans of his, and that they were only searching for his autograph for profiteering purposes, something that he objects to.

In recent years, Spade has hosted a variety of television shows, including his own talk show, Lights Out with David Spade, and the gameshow, Snake Oil, which aired for only ten episodes during 2023.
