David Harbour is thankful ‘Stranger Things’ is ending: “How much more story is there?”
After ten years and five seasons, actor David Harbour has admitted that he is thankful Stranger Things is coming to a close.
Harbour has played police chief Jim Hopper since 2016. Harbour stated to Interview, “When I started, I loved it so much. Buddies of mine who’d done TV shows for many years said, ‘By Season 3 or 4 you’ll be running.’ And I was like, ‘Never! I love all these guys so much.’ And then you get to a certain point where you’re like, ‘How much more story is there?’”
After making it through the slog of filming, Harbour has noted again that he is ready for a new challenge. He continued: “You’re having to play a lot of the same beat, and there’s a feeling where you’re like, ‘I want to take a risk. I want to do something that people haven’t seen me do before.’ So yeah, after 10 years, it’s like, ‘OK.'”
In 2023, Harbour made comments of a similar nature. At the prospect of filming the entire final season, Harbour seemed ready to fly the sci-fi nest. At the time, he said, “It is time for us to leave that nest and try other things and different projects.”
He continued “And to let [creators] the Duffer Brothers try different things as well. I mean, those guys are so talented. I want to see what they come up with next. So it is bittersweet, but it’s definitely time.”
Filming for the fifth season wrapped up around Christmas time in 2024. Speaking to Netflix, Sadie Sink said the cast were “savouring every minute” of the experience, knowing the end is near.
The first section of the fifth and final season of the show will air on November 26th. The second segment will air on Christmas Day, and the show’s finale will premiere on New Year’s Eve.
