David Bowie to release ‘Waiting In The Sky’ for Record Store Day 2024

The estate of David Bowie have announced details of Waiting In The Sky (Before The Starman Came To Earth), which is set to be available for Record Store Day on April 20th, 2024.

The upcoming record comprises of material made at London’s Trident Studios in 1971, when Bowie was in his Ziggy Stardust era. Although most of the material on Waiting In The Sky (Before The Starman Came To Earth) would go on to feature on The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders from Mars, it also includes previously unheard tracks.

There are four songs on the upcoming release which didn’t feature on the aforementioned album, including a cover of the Chuck Berry track ‘Round and Round’.

In a new statement, Bowie’s estate said: “To mark what would have been David Bowie’s 77th birthday, Parlophone Records are proud to announce the release of a very special David Bowie limited vinyl LP, WAITING IN THE SKY (BEFORE THE STARMAN CAME TO EARTH) which will be released on 20th April, 2024 for Record Store Day.”

The message continued: “The album is taken from the Trident Studios 1/4” stereo tapes dated 15th December, 1971, which were created for the then provisional tracklisting for what would become THE RISE AND FALL OF ZIGGY STARDUST AND THE SPIDERS FROM MARS album.”

Meanwhile, last year, Record Store Day relaunched their popular Unsigned competition. The prize, won by Brighton band Currls, saw hundreds of acts from across Britain compete for the chance to have their music pressed onto vinyl for a 500-record run.

After being crowned victorious, the band said: “It feels surreal. It’s a real proud moment for us. We’ve put so much hard work into this project over the years and to get recognition in this way is truly incredible.”
