Dave Navarro suggests Jane’s Addiction have split in new social media post
Jane’s Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro has admitted the band are unlikely to play their new single, ‘True Love’, in concert, which suggests they have split.
His latest comments arrive in the wake of much speculation surrounding the group’s future. On September 13th, their concert in Boston came to a premature end after 11 songs when frontman Perry Farrell attacked Navarro on stage during a performance of the track, ‘Ocean’s Size’.
Initially, Jane’s Addiction then cancelled a show at the Hartford HealthCare Amphitheater, Bridgeport, CT, before the whole tour was canned.
In total, 14 dates have been cancelled by Jane’s Addiction. The band were due to resume their ongoing North American tour in Toronto on September 18th, which was set to conclude at the YouTube Theater in Los Angeles on October 16th.
Since then, Navarro shared a statement, co-signed by the rest of the band, explaining the cancellation which reads: “Due to a continuing pattern of behaviour and the mental health difficulties of our singer Perry Farrell, we have come to the conclusion that we have no choice but to discontinue the current US tour.”
Furthermore, Navarro stated that “our concern for his personal health and safety as well as our own has left us no alternative.” He also said on behalf of the band, “We hope that he will find the help he needs.”
Farrell responded to this by accepting responsibility for his actions, admitting, “This weekend has been incredibly difficult, and after having the time and space to reflect, it is only right that I apologize to my bandmates, especially Dave Navarro, fans, family and friends for my actions during Friday’s show. Unfortunately, my breaking point resulted in inexcusable behaviour, and I take full accountability for how I chose to handle the situation.”
Are Jane’s Addiction still together?
Jane’s Addiction don’t have any shows lined up for the future, and it’s unknown whether they’ll take to the stage again once Farrell has taken time to reflect on his actions.
On September 18th, they released the new single, ‘True Love’, which is the follow-up single to July’s ‘Imminent Redemption’. Although Jane’s Addiction haven’t heavily promoted the track on social media, Navarro has commented on the new song, but admitted the band may never have the opportunity to perform it in concert.
Sharing a snippet of the track on Instagram, Navarro wrote: “I am proud of the work we did on this song but I am equally saddened by the fact that you will likely never hear it live.”
In the same post, Navarro apologised once again to their support acts Love and Rockets and Crawlers. He said that he was sorry “that things ended this way and that so many jobs were lost as a result.” Navarro concluded by writing, “May all of our hearts mend together.”
This latest Instagram post marks the second time this week that Navarro has used social media to hint that his time with Jane’s Addiction has come to an end. Prior to the official tour cancellation, he shared an image of him taken in concert which sees him holding an acoustic guitar emblazoned with the Jane’s Addiction logo, which he captioned “Goodnight”.
Although there’s still yet to be confirmation that Jane’s Addiction have parted ways, Navarro’s Instagram posts make their future look ominous.
