Perry Farrell apologises for attacking Dave Navarro at Jane’s Addiction concert

Amid Jane’s Addiction cancelling their tour following an onstage fight between guitarist Dave Navarro and vocalist Perry Farrell, the frontman has released a statement apologising for his behaviour during the incident.

During the group’s stop in Boston on September 13th, Farrell became agitated with Navarro midway through the song ‘Ocean Size’. After gesturing towards Navarro, Farrell first shoved him before throwing a punch, after which he had to be separated from the guitarist by the crew and bassist Eric Avery.

In a new statement, Farrell said sorry to his friends and bandmates, remarking, “This weekend has been incredibly difficult, and after having the time and space to reflect, it is only right that I apologize to my bandmates, especially Dave Navarro, fans, family and friends for my actions during Friday’s show. Unfortunately, my breaking point resulted in inexcusable behaviour, and I take full accountability for how I chose to handle the situation.”

The infamous show came after various moments on tour when Farrell had trouble with his voice. On an earlier tour date in New York on September 10th, the singer apologised to the crowd for what he cited as problems with his vocals and not being able to hit any notes.

Following the altercation, the band announced that the rest of the tour had been cancelled, saying, “We want to extend a heartfelt apology for the events that unfolded last night. As a result, we will be cancelling tomorrow night’s show in Bridgeport.”

Dave Navarro’s reaction to being attacked by Perry Farrell

Upon getting hit by Farrell, Navarro was seen being extremely calm and not fighting back. Once the singer was restrained, Navarro was seen immediately pulling the plug on his amps and pedals. However, Farrell’s statement comes right after the guitarist posted a message regarding the state of the group also on September 16th.

Alongside the band’s statement, Navarro commented on the continuing problems with Farrell and their need to end the tour for the singer’s wellbeing, saying, “Due to a continuing pattern of behaviour and the mental health difficulties of our singer Perry Farrell, we have come to the conclusion that we have no choice but to discontinue the current US tour.”

Navarro had also posted a photo on Instagram earlier showing him holding an acoustic guitar with Jane’s Addiction emblazoned across it, which he captioned, “Goodnight”. Further on, the guitarist shared the group’s massive disappointment to not be there for the fans but emphasised that “our concern for his personal health and safety as well as our own has left us no alternative.”

While Navarro rejoined the group back in 2008, he had previously been off the road in recent years before returning for the string of dates in 2024.
