Dave Grohl had to “turn everything off” after sharing he’d fathered child from extramarital affair

Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl has stated he had to “turn everything off” after revealing he’d fathered a child from an extramarital affair in 2023.

Grohl, who shares three children with his wife Jordyn Blum, who he married in 2003, made the announcement on his social media channels in 2024.

He wrote at the time, “I’ve recently become the father of a new baby daughter, born outside of my marriage. I plan to be a loving and supportive parent to her.”

His statement continued, “I love my wife and my children, and I am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness. We’re grateful for your consideration toward all the children involved, as we move forward together.”

Following Grohl’s public admission, Foo Fighters subsequently cancelled all of their planned tour dates and the singer retreated out of the public eye.

While Grohl has continued to keep the matter behind-closed-doors, he reflected to The Guardian in a new interview, “I had to turn everything off, one of those things being my concern for what other people think.”

He elaborated, “Being able to shut off that part of yourself can be sometimes a very healthy exercise in considering life within your immediate radius. Not giving all of that so much currency within yourself that it can completely destroy yourself.”

However, Grohl refused to discuss the matter itself publicly, explaining, “Writing songs and writing lyrics about these things is sometimes enough. As far as having a deeper, longer conversation about them, I still do reserve a lot of this for my own personal life, as impersonal and public as it may seem.”

In the same interview, Grohl opened up about his experience of therapy over the last 18 months, which aligns with the announcement, revealing, “I’ve been in therapy six days a week for 70 weeks. I did the math the other day: over 430 sessions.”

He said that these sessions have helped him develop his communicative skills “not only with others, but with myself”.

Foo Fighters are set to release their new album, Your Favorite Toy, on April 24th, and will be taking their new record on the road this summer across North America and Europe.

Their jaunt will kick off in June 2025 at the Unity Arena in Oslo, Norway on June 10th, before the rock legends will travel to Stockholm, Warsaw, Munich and Paris.

At the end of June, Foo Fighters will arrive in the United Kingdom for two shows at Anfield Stadium in Liverpool on June 25th and June 27th. They also have a number of festival headline dates in the calendar across the continent.
