Dave Grohl announces birth of daughter “outside of my marriage”
Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl has released a statement confirming that he has fathered a child outside of his marriage.
Grohl had previously been promoting the album But Here We Are, which chronicles the group’s reaction to the death of drummer Taylor Hawkins. Joining him on the road was his daughter Violet, who had guested on the group’s last album by singing the duet ‘Show Me How’ with her father.
In a post on Instagram, Grohl admitted to fathering the child and the strain it is likely to put on his family, saying, “I plan to be a loving and supportive parent to her. I love my wife and my children, and I am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness. We’re grateful for your consideration toward all the children involved, as we move forward together.”
This comes after Grohl had previously welcomed daughters Violet, Harper—who have both deactivated their Instagram accounts—and Ophelia over his long marriage with Jordyn Blum, with whom he celebrated his 20th wedding anniversary in 2023. While Grohl does appreciate fans’ concerns, all comments have since been disabled from the post.
Prior to his relationship with Blum, Grohl had been married to Jennifer Youngblood in 1994 before splitting in 1997. Following their split, Grohl had gone through the details of their relationship throughout the album The Colour and the Shape, including the breakout single from the record, ‘Monkey Wrench’.
Since settling down, Grohl has been known for being a family man while playing stadiums. He even recorded the group’s album Wasting Light at his home in California, which featured various footage of him playing with his daughters in between recording guitar parts for tracks like ‘These Days’ and while writing the lyrics for the Bob Mould duet ‘Dear Rosemary’.
In an interview with Time, Grohl expressed how important family life is to him, saying, “I don’t like being away from my kids for more than 12 days. It’s changed everything that I do. When you have kids, you see life through different eyes. You feel love more deeply and are maybe a little more compassionate.”
While there has been no word about the state of Grohl and Blum’s marriage, the pair were last seen together attending Wimbledon in London this year. As of yet, the identity of the child of Grohl’s daughter has not been revealed.
