Dave Grohl reveals advice he gave Violet Grohl at the start of her music career
Dave Grohl has revealed the advice he gave to his daughter, Violet Grohl, at the start of her music career.
The Foo Fighters frontman was speaking in a new interview on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, following the recent release of the band’s latest album, Your Favourite Toy.
Despite this, Grohl also turned his attention to his family, namely his eldest daughter, whose debut album, Be Sweet to Me, is set for release on May 29th.
Asked by Colbert what his words of wisdom to his daughter have been as she prepares to make waves in the industry, Grohl replied: “You work hard and you want to be successful and you want to be the best that you can be, but at the end of the day, the most important thing is your love of music and that you love the music that you’re making. That’s the reward.”
Adding, “Everything else is like bells and whistles,” the frontman said that he has emphasised to his daughter what is truly important at this primitive stage in her career.
“I want her to really appreciate these early experiences, like don’t wish any of this away,” Grohl continued. “Don’t get too ahead of yourself. Just be in the moment right now, as hard as it can be sometimes.”
Despite this, Grohl previously made it clear in February that he “had nothing to do with” his daughter signing a record deal, saying he only found out after she informed him over dinner.
Violet Grohl recently spoke to Far Out herself, reflecting on her experiences on entering the music industry in her own right, having come from a famous musical family.
“My family is very musical, not [just] my dad,” she said. “My dad’s mom was a choral singer. My dad’s dad was an orchestral flautist, my other grandparents listen to music all the time. It’s just something that’s very deeply embedded in my family.”
The singer also said in a previous interview that she is fine with being called a nepo baby in light of her upbringing, admitting, “Obviously, doors are open for me because of my last name”.
