Violet Grohl is cool with you calling her a nepo baby: “I don’t care”

Violet Grohl, the daughter of Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl currently gearing up to release her debut album, has aired her thoughts on being branded with the nepo baby label.

At the beginning of the year, it was revealed that the indie-rock musician had signed to Republic Records through her own imprint, Auroura Records. Soon after, news of her debut album, Be Sweet To Me, was confirmed, with impressive, grunge-tastic singles starting to appear on streaming platforms.

Speaking with The Forty-Five, the young singer-songwriter has shared about the journey so far, “I’m beyond grateful for the life that I was born into.”

She added candidly, “It’s such a privilege to be able to be around musicians and in a space that nurtures my interest and allows me to grow and to make a record.”

The star has two feet on the ground and admitted that “obviously, doors are open for me because of my last name”.

She continued, “It’s not something I’m ever going to hide behind or say, ‘No, I worked so hard for this! You guys shouldn’t say that! That hurts my feelings’.”

Grohl then insisted, “I don’t care – I really don’t. I’ve heard that since I was 13 years old. So call me a nepo baby all you want. It’s ‘whatever’ to me. I just hope that eventually people will give me a shot.”

This summer, the ‘Thum’ singer will play the iconic Reading and Leeds festival. With this in mind, she shared, “Come listen to my music and then you can decide for yourself if I’m worthy of this career or not. This is my passion, this is my thing – and it’s all I want to do.”

Speaking with Far Out recently about the sonic landscape of her upcoming release, Grohl revealed that The Breeders’ second album, Last Splash, was an important musical touchstone for the project: “That album totally opened up a world for me sonically when I listened to it for the first time,” Grohl said.

She added, “The way that Kim Deal writes music is so spectacular and just so enjoyable to listen to. It’s so frenetic and high energy and also really beautiful at the same time.”

Grohl’s debut album, Be Sweet To Me, is slated for a May 29th release.
