Watch Dave Grohl cover LCD Soundsystem and David Bowie at charity concert
Dave Grohl took to the stage at a charity concert to perform a selection of his own hits as well as some iconic covers, including from the likes of LCD Soundsystem and David Bowie.
The Foo Fighters frontman surprised fans on April 25th by making an unexpected appearance at Oakwood Live at Avalon Hollywood in Los Angeles, where a school benefit was taking place.
The rocker was joined on stage by Foo Fighters bandmate Rami Jaffee, as well as backing musicians Wiley Hodgen and John Lousteau.
The impromptu four-piece opened their set with a cover of the LCD Soundsystem 2005 hit ‘Daft Punk is Playing at My House’, before continuing the performance by playing their version of The Knacks’ iconic ‘My Sherona’.
Afterwards, Grohl and the band moved on to a double bill of classics by his hero, Bowie. They first performed the Queen and Bowie collaboration ‘Under Pressure’, joined by Luke Spiller of The Struts, and then went on to give a rendition of ‘Moonage Daydream’ alongside Lisa Loeb.
Grohl has previously made no secret of his worship for Bowie over the years, telling Sky in 2021: “I mean, there’s just nobody cooler than Bowie, he was whether he was on stage, off stage… in the studio. “Even his emails were cool. There’s nobody cooler.”
Reflecting on his favourite album by the ‘Starman’, the former Nirvana drummer also explained in a previous interview: “The album that really stole my heart – and I know that I’ll be drawn and quartered by hardcore Bowie fans for admitting this – was his 1983 masterpiece Let’s Dance.”
Although the pair later instigated a friendship as the Foo Fighters rose the ranks in the late 1990s, Bowie’s typically blunt style meant Grohl never got his wish of a studio collaboration with the rock icon, as Bowie infamously turned down his offer and told him to “fuck off.”
