Date allegedly set for record-breaking Oasis reunion
Oasis played their final gig together 15 years ago this week. To mark the occasion, the band may be considering a reunion. While rumours of an Oasis reunion have been circulating ever since the group initially broke up, they may actually carry some weight this time.
Industry insiders are adamant that Oasis will get back together in 2025 and take over their hometowns of Manchester and London for multiple gigs planned at Heaton Park and Wembley. One rumour even suggests that the band is keen on breaking Taylor Swift’s record at Wembley by playing ten shows at the venue, topping her eight.
The Times published an article speculating about the rumours, highlighting that the two Gallagher brothers had reached a truce and also stating that there are rumours the band would headline Glastonbury, too. This would all take place 30 years after the release of their second album, What’s The Story Morning Glory? It would be fitting for them to reunite on the anniversary of this album, given it projected them into global stardom, showing that their debut, Definitely Maybe, wasn’t just a one-off.
Liam Gallagher has seemingly confirmed the rumours, as in a tweet, he replied to the article speculating about a reunion, saying, “See you down the front, you big fanny.” Of course, there is also a chance that Liam is poking fun at the speculation, as he tends to use his social media platform to wind people up.
That being said, the brother’s relationship does seem to have thawed slightly in recent years. Their public remarks about each other are a lot less harsh. In the past, Liam has called his brother Noel “A sad little dwarf,” while Noel has said, “I liked my Mum until she gave birth to Liam.”
Recently, when asked about the potential of a reunion, the answers have shifted from a flat “no”, as they were for years, to being more optimistic than that. The two talk about getting along as individuals first and also waiting to see if it feels right before getting back together.
The compliments have continued to roll in recently as well, as in a video released by the band’s record label to mark 30 years since their debut, Definitely Maybe, Noel had some kind words to say about Liam’s singing voice. “When I would sing a song, it would sound good. When he sung it, it sounded great,” he said, “I can’t sing ‘Cigarettes & Alcohol’, ‘Rock n Roll Star’ and all that. I don’t have the same attitude as him. My voice is half a Guinness on a Tuesday—it’s all right. Liam’s is ten shots of tequila on a Friday.”
We may get to see the brothers perform these songs together once again. More updates will follow on the likelihood of an Oasis reunion; this remains a developing story.
