Danielle Moore, Crazy P singer, dies in “sudden and tragic circumstances”

Danielle Moore, the lead singer and frontwoman for the funky electronic outfit Crazy P, has passed away at the age of 52.

The news comes as a sudden shock to fans, as there was no indication of Moore being unwell, and the band has described the circumstances surrounding her death as “sudden and tragic.” There is yet to be any official cause of death reported.

In a statement posted to Instagram, her fellow bandmates wrote, “We cannot believe the news ourselves and we know it will be the same for all of you. She gave us so much and we love her so much. Our hearts are broken.” They continued, “We need time to process that this has happened. Danielle lived a life driven by love, compassion, community and music. She lived the biggest of lives. We will miss her with all our hearts.”

Crazy P have had an incredibly successful career as a band. After releasing their first studio album, A Nice Hot Bath With…, in 1998, the band produced music steadily and consistently, making a name for themselves within electronic music. They also expanded beyond the borders that confined a lot of electronic artists at the time, turning their gigs into full-blown live shows equipped with a band and a live energy that was difficult to get elsewhere.

In an interview with Far Out in 2023, band member Jim Baron once spoke about how proud he was at how they had developed and their continued success over the years. “I think my proudest feeling is that we’ve managed to forge a career in quite difficult times for producers and musicians, and we’ve managed to keep true to ourselves and keep a very loyal fan base,” he said, “And we’re still here over 20 years later. I think it’s unusual for this day and age.”

Moore was a huge part of that success. Her angelic voice complemented the band’s electronic music perfectly, and she was the perfect person to front the band’s energy on stage. Though she didn’t join Crazy P until 2002, during an expansion period for the band, her presence could be felt immediately and resonated with fans everywhere.

She developed a love for energetic and fun music from a young age. Growing up in Manchester, by the time she was 18, she found herself attending the Haçienda Nightclub, where her love for dance music grew. “I had my really seminal dancefloor moments there,” she said in an interview with Disco Pogo, “I could dance how I wanted and feel so myself.”

The freedom that she found and cherished went on to inspire her vocals for some of the band’s biggest hits, such as ‘Heartbreaker’, ‘Like A Fool’ and ‘Cruel Mistress’.

Her loss will be deeply felt throughout the music industry and the world. Tributes for the singer have begun to roll in as the likes of JD Twitch, Sister Bliss, and Róisín Murphy have all paid their respects. “She was just the best,” wrote JD Twitch in a post on X, “The definition of a beautiful human being.”
