Courtney Barnett shares the new video for ‘Everybody Here Hates You’
Our favourite Melbourne rocker, Courtney Barnett has today shared the brand new video for her single ‘Everybody Here Hates You’. The song centres around the eroding nature of mental health issues and the video offers an absurdist view on it.
“I go to Loving Hut, I get my hair cut, I feel the same / I feel putrid, I’m getting used to it these days.” Sings Barnett on her recently released song. Released as a follow up to 2018’s LP Tell Me How You Really Feel and the one-off release ‘Small Talk’ – the track is a guitar-driven focus on the fragility of mental health and the need to keep talking about the issue on a local and wider scale.
‘Everybody Here Hates You’ manages to capture a seminal moment in society without ever feeling too preachy. Offering a kind hand while still providing a pulsating rock and roll tune to keep those toes tapping. The video is a similar triumph of thought-provoking without being condescending.
Filmed with long-time collaborator Danny Cohen, Barnett and the band are playing to a big empty venue until the camera switches inside Barnett’s own brain to find the band performing yet again, this time with more oomph.
