Coachella 2025: Dave Grohl performs Foo Fighters classics with the LA Philharmonic

Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl made a surprise appearance during the second weekend of Coachella. He joined Gustavo Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic to perform ‘The Sky is a Neighborhood’ and ‘Everlong’.

Fans were stunned when Grohl joined the stage, carrying his electric guitar. The Philharmonic lent heavily on their brass section to lead into the famous ‘Everlong’ chorus.

The set also included other big names, such as recent Wicked star Cynthia Erivo, who covered Prince’s ‘Purple Rain’. Laufey, Natasha Bedingfield, Ca7riel and Paco Amoroso were also featured in the set.

This isn’t the first time Grohl has joined in on a set at Coachella. In 2023, the Foo Fighters frontman joined indie-rockers Wet Leg on stage. He performed the band’s hit single ‘Ur Mum’, joining lead vocalist Rhian Teasdale on the song’s “longest loudest scream” outro.

The 2025 show marks Dudamel’s 17-year tenure as conductor of the LA Philarmonic. He’ll be departing to lead the New York Philharmonic next year.

Dudamel has been vocal about his desire to play at the festival. In an interview with Los Angeles Times he called it a “dream” gig. It “represents a journey of making music accessible to everybody,” he stated, “but also creating a culture where people don’t feel that classical music is far away, not part of their lives.”

The same evening, Green Day performed an astonishing headline set, and Charli XCX declared Brar Summer over. Coachella will conclude on April 20th.
