“He’s an asshole”: the 2001 co-star who called Steven Seagal a “fucking shithead”

Few above-the-title actors have made fewer friends and more enemies in the industry than Steven Seagal, who somehow managed to enjoy a decades-long career in Hollywood while also being a piece of shit.

For a while, it looked as though lessons had finally been learned, with Seagal having been completely absent from the screen since 2019, not that he’s been resting on his laurels. Instead, he became a cheerleader for Russia, which saw Ukraine declare him a viable threat to national security.

However, like the turd that simply won’t flush no matter how many times you try, it was announced that, like a fat, useless phoenix with a penchant for telling tall tales, 2026’s Order of the Dragon has wrapped production and will mark the self-appointed aikido master’s return from a seven-year absence.

In this day and age, how many people are asking for a new Steven Seagal flick? Steven Seagal, for one, but beyond that, it’s hard to imagine a huge number of viewers caring. If anything, it’s impressive that he’s managed to convince anyone to work with him, since most of his former collaborators make it sound as though they wouldn’t piss on him if he was being immolated at their feet.

There are at least a dozen, and almost definitely many more, co-stars, filmmakers, and producers who loathe the man with every fibre of their being, and if you’ve gotten the full Steven Seagal experience once, then it’s something you’d never want to put yourself through again. Unless you’re DMX, for some reason, with the late rapper outing himself as a glutton for punishment.

The two first shared the screen in 2001’s Exit Wounds, and the man who was adamant that he was gonna give it to ya painted a wonderful picture of his scene partner. “Steven Seagal is a fuck,” DMX noted. “He’s a fucking shithead with spray-on hair.” Did he have any positive recollections? No, not really. “This guy’s a fucker,” he added for emphasis. “He’s an asshole.”

Did the reincarnation of a Tibetan monk feel the same way? Quite the opposite. “DMX was a gentleman with me,” he said at the time. “He’s reflective, thoughtful, gentle.” You’ve got to laugh, really: Seagal called his colleague a true gent, while his colleague summed him up as not only a fuck and a shithead, but an asshole, too, which is admittedly the consensus when it comes to the molasses-fast martial artist.

What makes the mind boggle most of all is that they only went and made another movie together. Maybe time had healed those lingering wounds, or maybe one or both of them really needed the money, because in 2019, Seagal and DMX were reunited for 2019’s Beyond the Law, which, up until recently, was the former’s last filmic outing.

Ominously, the Steven Seagal comeback hovers ever more forebodingly into view, which by extension means that it’s only a matter of time before another actor follows the precedent set by DMX and many others by sharing how much of a prick he is.
