CMAT releases “shopping centre version” deluxe edition of ‘Euro-Country’
CMAT has released a deluxe edition of her latest album Euro-Country with a twist, with new cuts of songs from the record turned into “shopping centre versions”.
The singer made the announcement via social media on September 1st, following the official release of Euro-Country on August 29th, explaining that the deluxe edition of the album would feature “shopping centre versions” of four songs, with a tinny rendition of ‘Take a Sexy Picture of Me’ used in the announcement post.
Alongside the song, the three other “shopping centre version” tracks will be ‘Running/Planning’, ‘The Jamie Oliver Petrol Station’, and ‘When a Good Man Cries’, with the deluxe edition only available to buy via digital download from CMAT’s website for £4.99 until September 4th.
The shopping centre theme comes in honour of the artwork and imagery largely used for Euro-Country, with the album cover depicting the singer emerging from a fountain in a run down shopping precinct.
To this end, the video for the titular track also showed her running around a local shopping centre, highlighting the often unspoken working-class reality of Ireland in the aftermath of the Celtic Tiger era.
CMAT has often used the vehicle of unconventional or zany humour as an integral part of her sonic brand, but on Euro-Country, this was also interspersed with a searing emotional depth.
In its four-and-a-half star review of the album, Far Out wrote: “No feeling is ever diluted. In fact, her devotion to wit makes it hit heavier as she writes songs like they’re direct messages from your best friend and spoken in your language, so you can really hear what’s behind them.”
The singer has a string of UK dates lined up over the coming months, beginning on October 2nd at the O2 Academy Brixton in London. She also added a second leg of the Euro-Country tour set to take place in March next year, where she will play dates in Edinburgh, Brighton, Manchester, and Alexandra Palace in London.
