CMAT invites Olivia Rodrigo for pints while praising new Live Lounge cover
CMAT is looking for a new drinking buddy, and next on her list is Olivia Rodrigo.
The 23-year-old global pop star just unveiled a live lounge cover of CMAT’s hit ‘When A Good Man Cries’, released last year as the fifth single from her third studio album, Euro-Country.
CMAT responded to the cover by posting a video of her listening to the clip and squealing excitedly. Particularly, the 30-year-old star anticipates Rodrigo’s rendition of the line, “Well, I’ve never changed, but Lord, I’m tryna… The people’s mess, Dunboyne Diana.”
Notably, CMAT was born and raised in Dunboyne, a commuter town in Ireland located approximately nine miles northwest of Dublin.
As CMAT smiles along to the track, she shares, “She’s going to say ‘Dunboyne’…” and, after the lyric comes and goes, she celebrates passionately, clapping her hands and admitting, “I don’t know why that’s fucking killed me that she’s said Dunboyne.”
In the caption of the video, CMAT wrote, “She sang it better than me, so now I’m toast,” before tagging Rodrigo and adding, “Pints?”
Elsewhere on the Live Lounge, Rodrigo shared a live rendition of her latest song, ‘The Cure’, from her forthcoming album, You Seem Pretty Sad For a Girl So In Love, which is due to arrive on June 12th through Geffen Records.
Rodrigo has since clarified that the song has “nothing to do with the band”, despite bringing out Robert Smith at her headline Pyramid Stage performance at Glastonbury. “Although I love [the band] so much, it just is a happy coincidence,” she added.
Rodrigo is set to begin a huge world tour in North America in September, which will keep her on the road until May 2027.
As for CMAT, she recently used her acceptance speech after winning the coveted ‘Best Album’ prize at the Ivor Novello Awards to warn that “fascism is on the rise”.
