CMAT releases fanatical new single, ‘The Jamie Oliver Petrol Station’
Irish country-pop singer CMAT has released a new single, ‘The Jamie Oliver Petrol Station’, from her highly anticipated upcoming album.
The new tune is the third single from her upcoming album, Euro-Country, which she announced in March. The new “transcendental indie-krauty-campy-stomp,” as her team has termed it in press materials, offers a way out of the trappings of hatred, irritability and annoyance that plagued us more each day.
The singer has said that the “whole point” of the song is to reveal that “actually my annoyance and intolerance and hatred of other people serves absolutely no purpose in my life and is a really bad instinct that I have. So it’s actually a love song for Jamie Oliver, if you think about it. It’s me being like ‘don’t be a bitch and stop judging people for annoyances.”
Within the song, CMAT battles with herself as she struggles to articulate her message clearly. The single opens with the lyrics, “I was at the Jamie Oliver Petrol Station / I needed deli but God, I hate him / That man should not have his face on posters / I feel so angry and sad at most.” However, throughout the song she addresses herself with a new realisation: “Don’t be a bitch / The man’s got kids / And they wouldn’t like this.”
Her new album, to be released on August 29th, is the follow-up to the Irish singer’s 2023 break-out record, Crazymad, For Me, which saw her nominated for the Mercury Prize. Euro-Country promises to level up her artistry by detailing themes such as money, fame, and womanhood.
Speaking about the album in full, the ‘Running/Planning’ singer commented that, “Euro-Country is, I think, the best thing I have ever made. I felt halfway through recording it was the most important record I’ve made for myself… mainly because it was making me go crazy.”
CMAT has many live shows booked before and after the album’s release. Having recently supported Sam Fender, the musician has a handful of headline shows before her Glastonbury set at the Pyramid Stage on June 27th.
