Cillian Murphy is open to the idea of a ‘Peaky Blinders’ spin-off movie

Following the conclusion of the beloved British crime show in 2022, Cillian Murphy has revealed that he is open to the idea of a Peaky Blinders spin-off movie.

Following the cultural phenomenon of ‘Barbenheimer’ earlier this year, the Oppenheimer lead joined Barbie star Margot Robbie in a new conversation. Robbie shared her love for the iconic series with Murphy, stating, “There are the people who are obsessed with Peaky Blinders, and then there’s the people who haven’t seen Peaky Blinders. I obviously sit in the first category.”

Murphy led the Peaky Blinders cast for almost ten years, starring as the Tommy Shelby. For Variety, Robbie went on to ask if he would consider appearing in a spin-off movie, to which he responded, “I’m open to the idea.”

“I’m totally open to the idea, but I also do think it was kind of a perfect six seasons,” he continued. Murphy went on to share his love for the show’s ambiguous ending and his concerns surrounding translation to the film format but maintained that he’s “always open to a great script. Who wouldn’t be?”

Last year, series creator Steven Knight confirmed that he had nearly finished writing a feature-length spin-off for the show. At the time, he suggested that shooting would begin within 18 months. Knight has also suggested that the story might continue past a possible spin-off.

“I think after the film, we will look at [it]…It would be me sort of launching possible new stories into the ’50s, and then I would hand over the baton of writing and creating the thing to other people…But if there is an appetite for the world then it will continue,” he told the BBC last year.
