Cher seeks conservatorship over son following multiple arrests and life of “drugs, expensive hotels and limousines”
Cher has filed for conservatorship of her son, Elijah Blue Allman, for the second time, following a string of arrests last month.
The 79-year-old has been here before: she filed for temporary conservatorship over her 49-year-old son’s estate in December 2023 because of his alleged struggles with drug abuse.
At the time, Allman’s legal team defended the bid, claiming that he was “clean and sober”. Subsequently, Cher voluntarily dismissed her petition almost a year later.
However, it was reported on March 1st that Allman was arrested for causing a disturbance at a private school with which he has no connection. On March 3rd, he was arrested again after allegedly breaking into a home in the Windham area of New Hampshire.
This has led to the ‘Believe’ singer trying once again for conservatorship; Cher has submitted a legal bid to appoint a temporary conservator, fiduciary Jason Rubin, to take charge of Allman’s finances.
A filing submitted to the Los Angeles Superior Court earlier this week shared, “The life of Elijah Allman (‘proposed conservatee’) has significantly deteriorated since a prior conservatorship petition was filed in 2023.”
It added that, “The proposed conservatee is currently in custody in the State of New Hampshire in a locked psychiatric hospital in an attempt to restore him to competency to face criminal charges in two cases.”
However, it insisted that this “is just the current set of problems.” As such, Cher’s team argued that her son “has no concept of money, is unable to manage his financial resources and is unable to withstand fraud or undue influence” due to his “severe mental health and addiction issues”.
As per The Independent, Allman allegedly receives an annual allowance of $120,000 a year from his late father’s trust. He reportedly spends the money almost entirely on “drugs, expensive hotels, and limousine transportation.”
The picture is bleak. The documents insist that, should the allowance continue to be given to Allen, he will continue to buy drugs in a “dire” cyclical situation.
It added, “His mental health has severely deteriorated, his financial situation is terrible, and his drug dependency is at its worst.”
