Charlie Puth appointed as Chief Music Officer at AI music creation platform Moises
Charlie Puth has joined the AI music creation platform, Moises, as their Chief Music Officer.
The Grammy-nominated artist will guide creative and product direction and collaborate on artist-focused features for Moises, which already boasts over 70 million users worldwide.
With the announcement of his new endeavour, Puth revealed that he has been using AI for many years.
The ‘Attention’ singer shared, “I’ve been using Moises in my own creative process for years, as have many of my friends. It opens up possibilities that used to take hours or expensive studio setups.”
However, aware of the optics around the use of AI in the creative industry, he clarified, “AI, when done right, isn’t here to replace musicians. It’s here to help artists learn, explore, and bring their ideas to life.”
In celebration of the new collaboration, Puth and the platform have launched a global remix competition. Musicians can create their own remix of Puth’s new track, ‘Beat Yourself Up’, from his latest album, Whatever’s Clever! using Moises.
Puth will personally choose the winners, who will receive a share of a $100,000 cash prize and the opportunity to attend a meet-and-greet at his show on May 29th in New York City. Submissions are open through March.
Not every musician is as welcoming to AI as Puth appears to be. Last year, Elton John and Paul McCartney spoke out about the dangerous ramifications of the use of the technology across the creative industries.
Radiohead’s Thom Yorke has also declared that artificial intelligence does nothing more than “steal” from original human artistic work.
Elsewhere, streaming platform Bandcamp has banned AI music entirely, sharing in a much-celebrated statement, “We believe that the human connection found through music is a vital part of our society and culture, and that music is much more than a product to be consumed.”
