Charli XCX to produce and star in Takashi Miike’s new horror film
Charli XCX is set to star in and produce the next film from prolific Japanese horror director Takashi Miike.
The pop star recently started her own production company, Studio365. Charli then confirmed that she is teaming up with A24 for her first film, The Moment, which will be produced under the studio. This will be based on one of her original ideas that she took to the studio.
Her project, alongside Miike, represents the second film produced under the Studio365 banner. The pair are keeping the plot details close to their chest. However, extreme violence and gore is expected.
Ross Evans, whose script How to Save a Marriage is being developed for Sony with Robert Pattinson helping in the producer role, is penning the screenplay.
After declaring that Brat summer was over at her Coachella set this year, Charli has focused much of her attention on the film industry. She has many upcoming projects, including Julia Jackman’s period fantasy 100 Nights of Hero, where she will star alongside Nicholas Galitzine and Emma Corrin. She will also star in Pete Ohs and Jeremy O. Harris’ Erupcja and Daniel Goldhaber’s horror remake Faces of Death.
Charli will also star alongside Olivia Wilde and Cooper Hoffman in Gregg Araki’s I Want Your Sex, as well as Romain Gavras’ adventure comedy Sacrifice. Perhaps most notably, she will star in Cathy Yan’s thriller The Gallerist, which also stars Natalie Portman, Jenna Ortega, Da’Vine Joy Randolph and more.
Miike has directed over 100 films since 1991, including everything from low-budget indies to mammoth studio pictures.
The director is an accomplished figure, Far Out previously called Miike’s 1999 cult classic Audition “a visceral and eternally memorable critique of the patriarchy” and included the movie in a list of the top ten most terrifying horror movie scenes of all time.
