Watch Charli XCX join Role Model as surprise guest on ‘Saturday Night Live’
On the latest episode of Saturday Night Live, Charli XCX made a surprise appearance during musical guest Role Model’s performance.
Role Model, real name Tucker Pillsbury, took to the stage at Studio 8H at 30 Rock for the first time in his career to perform his hit singles, ‘Some Protector’ and ‘Sally, When the Wine Runs Out’.
In recent months, Role Model has invited different famous faces on-stage to join him as the aforementioned Sally, such as Kate Hudson, Natalie Portman, Griff, Renee Rapp, Hillary Duff, Ashe, Olivia Rodrigo, Troye Sivan, and The Dare.
Before he began to invite celebrities to become his Sally, Pillsbury would invite fans from the audience, which also created a number of viral social media moments. For his Saturday Night Live debut, it was Charli XCX’s turn.
Charli’s appearance on Saturday Night Live comes days after she announced the cast for her upcoming A24 movie, The Moment, which will feature Rosanna Arquette, Kate Berlant, Jamie Demetriou, Arielle Dombasle, Hailey Benton Gates, Kylie Jenner, Trew Mullen, Isaac Powell, Rachel Sennott, Rish Shah, and Alexander Skarsgard.
The latest episode of Saturday Night Live, episode two of the 51st season, was hosted by Amy Poehler, who previously served as a cast member between 2001 and 2008.
Poehler, who also co-hosted Weekend Update on the sketch show for four years, was an appropriate host due to the significance of the episode, as she told viewers how it was “actually a very special night for the show, not just because I’m here, but because 50 years ago today, on October 11th, 1975, the very first episode of SNL aired”.
She also used the section of the show to poke fun at the new AI-actor Tilly Norwood, who was recently unveiled at Zurich Film Festival, stating, “I remember watching the show in the ’70s, sitting in my house in Burlington, Massachusetts thinking, ‘I wanna be an actress someday, at least until they invent an AI actress who’s funnier and willing to do full frontal’.”
