Charley Crockett posts rambling response after removing ‘Satanic’ group Twin Temple from tour: “I won’t conform and I’m not sorry”

Charley Crockett, the country star who dropped American rock duo Twin Temple from his forthcoming tour due to their use of “Satanic imagery”, has posted a rambling explanation for their removal.

Though Twin Temple was due to support the country star on July 14th in Troutdale, Oregon, as well as Paso Robles, California, on July 18th, they released a statement revealing their “disappointing” removal not a week before the first show.

At the time, they wrote, “We are really disappointed as we were looking forward to getting back out and seeing you, and also what it meant as bringing different types of people and music lovers together.”

News of their dismissal reached Jack White, who has since offered him an opening slot at his LA show on September 29th; he added cheerfully, “Get in front of me Satan!”

Now, Crockett has broken his silence on the matter with, first, a deleted Instagram post which read, “Fuck Trump, fuck Epstein, but Hail Satan? Not me, Jack.”

He followed it up with a lengthy ramble on Facebook, which began, “I won’t conform and I’m not sorry. There are many things I’ve done in my life to apologize for but this ain’t one of them.”

With an eye on the band’s swift dismissal, he continued, “I might wake up at 1pm on the back of that bus and find out that the opener ain’t working for me that night. Tough luck. Life is hard. This ain’t no temp agency. Get to stepping. Shit you might get you a life changing gig just by standing next to me. That’s magic.”

Drawing politics into the ramble, he went on to add, “I’m not on the left. I’m not on the right. I’m on the road, and that’s a hard way to go. Believe me, the [sic] would kill you bronc. I don’t give a damn whether you think I’m right or wrong.”

After touching on God, who is “the fabric that ties all life together,” he made a swipe at the industry, writing, “the entertainment business is chock full of shameless exhibitionists possessed by the desire to be famous and have the public’s adoration”.

Over on his Instagram, he simply posted the Marlon Brando quote, which reads, “I’ve encountered many people over the years who believe that self-interest is the thing always at work underneath everything. These people dismiss the idea of true belief. I feel sorry for them”.

Twin Temple has investigated Satanic culture in their music for some time now; during an interview with Far Out in 2023, the band’s Alexandra James even said, “In the Satanic philosophy. We believe that everyone is a unique individual that hasn’t come before and will never come again.”

“There was no premeditated moment where we were like, ‘let’s invent a bizarre genre’,” James added of their Satanic doo-wop sound.
