Watch the new trailer for Celine Song’s ‘Materialists’ starring Dakota Johnson and Pedro Pescal
Materialists, starring Dakota Johnson, Pedro Pascal, and Chris Evans, has shared a new international trailer ahead of its summer release.
The upcoming movie is directed by Celine Song, who was previously nominated in the ‘Best Picture’ category for her directorial debut, Past Lives. Materialists is only Song’s second movie of her career, and she also wrote the screenplay and produced the film.
It follows the character Lucy (Johnson) in New York as she is stuck between two lovers—a wealthy man (Pascal) or her down-and-out former boyfriend (Evans), who is struggling to get by as an aspiring actor-turned-waiter.
The film’s short synopsis, courtesy of Sony Pictures, reads: “A young, ambitious New York City matchmaker finds herself torn between the perfect match and her imperfect ex.”
Materialists will be released in the US by A24 on June 13th, and two months later, Sony Pictures will release it internationally in cinemas on August 16th.
In an interview with EW, Song recently said of the film: “Love and dating, even though those are things that men do as well, there is a dismissive feeling of it being called a chick flick or lighter fare. I think there’s nothing more hardcore than this thing that we do, which is love someone. Romance is a very hardcore thing because it’s one of the most dramatic things that everybody gets to do. It’s one of the biggest dramas of our lives.”
The director also said that “matters of the heart are a very, very serious matter” and described love as a theme she thinks about every day but considers “one of the great mysteries of life.”
The new international trailer for Materialists is available to watch below before its release on August 16th.
