Cast’s John Power claims Oasis support slot “really authenticates our legacy”

Cast frontman John Power has claimed that the experience the band have been afforded through Oasis taking them on as one of the support acts for their current reunion tour “really authenticates our legacy”.

Power was reflecting on the tour so far in a recent interview with Spin, in which he spoke of the magnitude of what the shows have achieved. “It’s become something more than a show. It’s a vicious world out there, and there’s so much joy in the gigs. People are going ape shit. I’ve watched many of the shows to the end because it’s an amazing, uplifting vibe all the way through,” he explained.

Cast have form as an Oasis support act, having fulfilled the same slot at the Britpop band’s iconic shows at Knebworth in 1996. However, Power revealed that the call to get the gang back together for the tour came from Liam Gallagher last year.

The frontman noted: “He [Gallagher] was like, ‘John, I’ve spoken to Noel, and we want you to open’. We wouldn’t be on this tour if it wasn’t for Liam. There’s no doubt. It wasn’t a business decision. We’re there because Liam and Noel pushed and said, ‘We want them on the tour.’ That’s such a massive nod from our peers. It really authenticates our legacy.”

Power added that a major reason for the tour being received so well was because the band “are on top form”.

He explained: “Liam is singing amazing. His voice is better than I’ve heard in a decade or more. It’s got a brightness that reminds you of Oasis in their heyday. Watching Noel’s expressions and nuances, he’s having the time of his life.”

It comes as the current UK and Ireland leg of the tour ended in a roaring success on August 17th at Croke Park in Dublin, before the brothers and their crew are set to jet off Stateside to bring the tour to North America, beginning on August 24th at the Rogers Stadium in Toronto.

The band will return to London for two final shows at Wembley Stadium on September 27th and 28th, before heading to Asia, Australia, and South America for the rest of the year.
