Following a very successful year for poet and songwriter Cass McCombs we were very happy to hear that he was going into his upcoming European tour with a brand new single ‘Confidence Man’. It’s our Track of the Day.
A year which has seen McCombs not only release his epic album Tip of the Sphere, which came out in February to rapturous applause but also, just last week, saw the talented writer release a book of poetry, Toy Fabels, via Spurl Editions. It’s a wonderful book which highlights McCombs incredible poignancy with words.
The press release says, “The 72-page book with illustrated by McCombs, feels like travelling through his singular itinerant experiences — high and low voices merge, as childhood and adulthood, the east and west coasts, paganism and religion, twist into each other. A central theme is memory, especially a sort of half-remembered, half-obscured — but never idealised — landscape of Northern California. This remembered landscape is always in flux, shaping McCombs’ poetic language.”
This kind of talent is luckily not restrained to just his poetic output. NO, McCombs takes this artistry and applies it to everything he does. That’s what we have with his latest effort, ‘Confidence Man’, which shows McCombs at his reflective best.
The track was only previously available as part of the Deluxe Edition of Tip of the Sphere but can now be found on streaming platforms and even with a wonderful new video to boot. Watch below the new video for our Track of the Day, ‘Confidence Man’.
With a huge European tour on the way McCombs is going to be busy for a few more weeks yet, in what has already been a very busy year. We couldn’t be happier for it.
