Cabaret Voltaire unveil details of live album ahead of final tour
Ahead of their final ever tour, Cabaret Voltaire have announced details of a live album, But What Time Is It Really?, slated for release on April 24th.
Last October, the Sheffield-bred electronic, industrial icons announced their final UK tour, set to take place in October this year. This month, the duo announced a West Coast jaunt around the US in May and an East Coast jaunt in September.
Now, Stephen ‘Mal’ Mallinder and Chris Watson have announced that But What Time Is It Really? will be available on vinyl and CD via the band’s webstore and on the 2026 tour.
They previously warmed up for their live farewell with five anniversary shows that took place from November 17th to 22nd in Glasgow, Manchester, Birmingham, London, and Brighton, which celebrated 50 years together.
The new album was recorded during this sold-out UK run, which saw Mallinder and Watson joined by Eric Random and Oliver Harrap.
The album was engineered and mixed by Benge, recorded by Joe Peat, and mastered by James Trevasus. Dan Conway and Paul Burgess were behind the artwork, which drew inspiration from Conway’s live visuals on the tour.
Watson has shared details of the new LP, revealing, “This record captures the powerful essence of contemporary live performance and establishes a visceral connection to the history of the band.”
Mallinder added, ”It was an opportunity to capture the shows as a unique moment in time, but also give people the opportunity to have a memento. Something that presented sounds and music, with respect to Richard [Kirk’s] memory, that also transcended time.” Kirk was a founding member of the band and passed away in 2021.
