BST confirm final festival night cancelled as Jeff Lynne is left “heartbroken”
BST Hyde Park Festival have confirmed that the festival’s final day has been officially cancelled, after Jeff Lynne‘s ELO pulled out of the headline slot due to illness.
Lynne announced the cancellation of what would be his final farewell show earlier today via a social media statement which read, “Jeff has been battling a systemic infection and is currently in the care of a team of doctors who have advised him that performing is simply not possible at this time nor will he be able to reschedule.”
Lynne was to be joined by many other performers throughout the day, such as The Doobie Brothers, Steve Winwood, and Dhani Harrison, so some wondered whether they would replace the iconic musician.
However, an official statement from BST broke the news that the whole event would be cancelled. It began, “Following the news that Jeff Lynne’s ELO will not be able to perform at BST Hyde Park due to medical reasons, Sunday 13 July’s event will sadly be cancelled.”
It adds, “Ticket holders will be refunded and contacted directly by their ticket agent with further details.”
The statement then encourages attendees to follow a link explaining refunds for different organisations, such as Ticketmaster and AXS.
The statement then turns attention towards what will now be the final BST show, Stevie Wonder’s headline set. It concluded, “Tonight’s performance marks the final night of an incredible edition of BST Hyde Park and we look forward to seeing everyone next year.”
Stevie Wonder will take to the stage at 8:00pm on July 12th, and is set to play for over two hours to comfortably meet the 10:30pm curfew. He will have support from the likes of Ezra Collective and Thee Sacred Souls.
On July 11th, Neil Young and the Chrome Hearts performed on the very same stage, racing through classics such as ‘Harvest Moon’, ‘Name of Love’, ‘Throw Your Hatred Down’ and ‘Rockin’ in the Free World’.
