Land of Hope and Dreams: Bruce Springsteen to perform at No Kings rally in Minnesota
Bruce Springsteen has confirmed he will perform at a No Kings rally in St Paul, Minnesota, this weekend.
The event, which is expected to be attended by up to 100,000 across the three sites in St Paul, is set to take place on March 28th.
No Kings rallies, which are protesting against Donald Trump’s administration, will be taking place across America on the same day, which millions of citizens are forecasted to be involved in, but Minnesota is the main rally due to Alex Pretti and Renee Good being killed by ICE agents in the state in January.
In addition to Springsteen performing in Minnesota, the event will also see legendary singer-songwriter and Trump critic Joan Baez take to the stage, as well as folk singer Maggie Rogers and Oscar-winner Jane Fonda.
Springsteen told the Minnesota Star Tribune, “You want to try to meet the moment. The No Kings movement is of great import right now.”
‘The Boss’ continued, “When you have the opportunity to sing something where the timing is essential and if you have something powerful to sing, it elevates the moment, it elevates your job to another level, and I’m always in search of that.”
He’s also excited to see Baez, adding, “Having Joan there, what can you say about her? She’s lived a life.”
Springsteen will be performing his protest anthem, ‘Streets of Minneapolis‘, at the No Kings rally in St Paul, a song that he wrote in the wake of Pretti and Good’s deaths.
He previously gave the live debut of the track at Tom Morello’s Defend Minnesota fundraiser on January 30th, which took place at First Avenue, Minneapolis.
Springsteen and Morello will be hitting the road together for the US leg of the Land of Hope and Dreams tour, set to begin on March 31st at the Target Center in Minneapolis, and will keep them on the road until it concludes at the Nationals Park in Washington DC on May 27th.
Upon announcing the tour, Springsteen again used his platform to speak out against Trump, defiantly stating, “We will be rocking your town in celebration and in defence of America, American democracy, American freedom, our American Constitution and our sacred American dream, all of which are under attack by our wannabe king and his rogue government in Washington, DC.”
He was later labelled a “loser” by a spokesperson for the White House, who also said he had “a severe case of Trump Derangement Syndrome “.
