Bruce Springsteen hails new biopic starring Jeremy Allen White as “fantastic”
In a new interview, Bruce Springsteen has revealed further insight into the upcoming biopic Deliver Me from Nowhere. Jeremy Allen White plays a younger version of the star in the film, which will hit screens later this year and it has the seal of approval from ‘The Boss’.
Focusing only on 1981 and 1982, the film details the story behind the musician’s seminal album, Nebraska, released in 1982. The forthcoming movie is based on the book by Warren Zanes, Deliver Me from Nowhere: The Making of Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska, released in 2023.
“It’s an interesting concept, because it’s only a couple of years out of my life,” Springsteen told Variety in a new interview.
He discussed the dichotomy between recording ‘Born in the USA’ at that time and “going through some personal difficulties that I’ve been living with my whole life. But it’s fantastic,” he affirmed of the film.
Springsteen has previously praised White’s performance in the biopic. But now, he revealed that he could not watch much of it unfold while they were on set. “I was on tour during a lot of it, so they filmed a good amount of it without me there,” Springsteen said.
Nonetheless, when he could make it, he reported a curious nostalgia. “I was on set sometimes,” he continued. “It was interesting to see it played out, to see your grandmother’s house again, and to go inside and get a general feeling of what it was like when you were very young. So I enjoyed all those parts of it.”
The biopic genre has been popular as of late, with Bob Dylan movie A Complete Unknown grossing over $138.8 million at the global box office. Like the Springsteen biopic, Dylan’s movie focused on a short time period in Dylan’s life, providing a new means to approach the genre.
