Bruce Springsteen praises Jeremy Allen White’s performance in upcoming biopic: “Jeremy is such a terrific actor”

Bruce Springsteen has hailed Jeremy Allen White as a “terrific actor” ahead of the upcoming biopic, Deliver Me from Nowhere.

The film, which sees White portray a younger version of Springsteen, details the story behind the musician’s seminal album, Nebraska, released in 1982. The forthcoming movie is based on the book by Warren Zanes, Deliver Me from Nowhere: The Making of Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska, released in 2023.

The record, which Springsteen believes is the record that represents him best as an artist, was made during a difficult time in his personal life that he called his “first real major depression” during an interview with CBS Mornings in 2023.

Production got underway on Deliver Me from Nowhere towards the end of 2024. As it stands, there is no release date announced for the movie, but Springsteen is impressed by what he’s seen so far.

On January 2nd, Springsteen appeared on the Sirius XM station E Street Radio. During the conversation with host Jim Rotolo, ‘The Boss’ said it was “a little” strange at first to see White portray him before adding, “but you get over that pretty quick”.

The singer-songwriter also heaped praise on The Bear star’s performance, adding, “And Jeremy is such a terrific actor that you just fall right into it. He’s got an interpretation of me that I think the fans will deeply recognise. He’s just done a great job, so I’ve had a lot of fun being on the set when I can get there.”

Similarly to Timothée Chalamet in the Bob Dylan biopic, A Complete Unknown, White is taking care of his own vocals for Deliver Me from Nowhere, which has received Springsteen’s stamp of approval, stating, “He sings well, he sings very well.”

Additionally, the New Jersey icon praised the supporting cast which includes Jeremy Strong as his manager, Jon Landau, and Stephen Graham, who plays Springsteen’s father, Douglas. “And Jeremy Strong and Odessa Young, there’s just a tremendous cast of people. They cast the film beautifully so, it’s very exciting,” he added.

Springsteen’s latest comments regarding Deliver Me from Nowhere arrive after he told The Telegraph last year that The Bear convinced him White was the perfect actor for the role. “I only had to see him on The Bear, and I knew he was the right guy because he had that interior life, but he also had a little swagger,” he said to the publication.
