Bruce Springsteen includes anti-Donald Trump speech on new live EP

Bruce Springsteen has shared a new six-track EP, Land of Hopes and Dreams, which he recorded in Manchester on May 14th.

Springsteen began his European tour last week with three shows at the Co-op Live in Manchester, the final of which occurred on May 20th. He will then make stops in Lille, Marseille, Liverpool, Berlin, Prague, Frankfurt, San Sebastian, Gelsenkirchen, and finally Milan.

While the tour shows so far have been well received, Springsteen’s attacks on the Donald Trump regime have been the main talking point, leading to criticism from the White House.

The EP consists of four tracks, including a cover of Bob Dylan’s ‘Chimes of Freedom’ and Springsteen’s impassioned introduction to ‘Land of Hopes and Dreams’ and ‘My City of Ruins’.

At the concert, Springsteen said before playing ‘Land of Hopes and Dreams’, “In my home, the America I love, the America I’ve written about, and has been a beacon of hope and liberty for 250 years, is currently in the hands of a corrupt, incompetent, and treasonous administration.”

Springsteen also called for action from his audience, asking for “all who believe in democracy and the best of our American experience to rise with us, raise your voices against authoritarianism, and let freedom ring.”

Trump then responded with a post on Truth Social, writing, “Never liked him, never liked his music, or his Radical Left Politics and, importantly, he’s not a talented guy — Just a pushy, obnoxious JERK”.

He also labelled Springsteen “dumb as a rock” for his support of President Joe Biden while he was in office before seemingly threatening the singer, adding, “This dried out “prune” of a rocker (his skin is all atrophied!) ought to KEEP HIS MOUTH SHUT until he gets back into the Country, that’s just “standard fare.” Then we’ll all see how it goes for him!”

Rather than back down, Springsteen again criticised Trump at his show in Manchester on May 17th. The former host of The Apprentice has since escalated the feud by announcing a “major investigation” into whether Springsteen was paid to perform at two rallies for the Democratic Party ahead of last year’s election.
