Brian Cox likens Donald Trump to a movie villain with “no empathy whatsoever”

Actor Brian Cox has compared President Donald Trump to a movie villain and claimed he has “no empathy whatsoever”.

Cox, who is no stranger to portraying villains, such as Logan Roy in Succession, launched the scathing attack on Trump in a new interview and also suggested that the United States are starting to turn on the politician.

When asked by The Telegraph about the key attribute of a movie villain, Cox replied, “Lack of empathy,” before adding, “I think Donald Trump is a very good example of a villain because he has no empathy whatsoever.”

Cox continued to detail his dislike of Trump, adding, “He’s clever and you cannot underestimate him, but I personally do not like the man. He is a force that is ultimately self-serving, and that is the problem. In a country like that, someone who is so self-serving just creates an oligarchy, which is what he’s moving towards. That won’t work.”

However, he does believe the tide is turning, adding, “It takes a while in America for the penny to drop – and the penny is dropping daily. More and more people are realising what is going on – because it’s the people who are going to be suffering, and he’s supposed to be standing up for them.”

Meanwhile, Cox recently cancelled plans for his one-man tour, which was supposed to begin in October, telling BBC Newscast that he is currently “too busy” and it has come about “too soon”.

The 79-year-old’s directorial debut, Glenrothan, starring Cox alongside Alan Cumming, is set to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival next month, and he will be in attendance at the event for the grand unveiling.
