Bret Michaels postpones tour following kidney stone surgery
Bret Michaels has been forced to postpone the rest of his current tour following significant surgery for kidney stones.
The Poison frontman was in the midst of his Live and Amplified World Tour, where he most recently played at the Fairchild Air Force Base in Spokane, Washington.
However, a day after the show on July 19th, Michaels was struck down by “intense” pain, leading to him being admitted to hospital in order to remove kidney stones.
He issued an update from the hospital over the weekend, revealing he had undergone an operation to remove the stones.
“I’m out of post-op recovery, and I’m doing everything within my power to feel better and continue playing great shows for great fans when I’ve got a complete clean bill of health,” he said at the time.
However, in a subsequent update issued to his website on July 28th, Michaels and his team unfortunately had to reveal the news that the rest of the planned tour has had to be temporarily postponed due to these health issues.
Explaining that Michaels has been fitted with a “utereal stent” as part of his recovery, the statement went into detail about how the musician’s other health conditions, which include Type 1 Diabetes and and a compression fracture in his lower back, means that he is “restricted from performing for the next 3 to 4 weeks and only prescribed light physical activity as part of his recovery.”
The statement added that Michaels’ usual “high-intensity live performances,” as well as the effects of his Type 1 Diabetes, could put him at risk of serious medical problems if he were to return to performing straight away.
The musician himself added, “I’m forever grateful for the amazing medical treatment and ongoing medical attention throughout my personal life and career, and truly grateful for family, friends, fans, band, crew and promoters for their understanding and, if all goes well, will hit the road late August back to delivering 1000% energy, intensity and truly nothing but a good time.”
No rescheduled dates have been revealed at this time, as the statement said Michaels’ medical team would “re-evaluate” him in three to four weeks to determine whether he is fit to perform again.
Unfortunately for Michaels, this is only the latest health battle he has come up against in his career, having suffered a life-threatening brain haemorrhage and a related warning stroke in 2010.
