Bradley Cooper set to replace Ryan Gosling in ‘Oceans’ prequel with Margot Robbie
Bradley Cooper is reportedly set to replace Ryan Gosling in the upcoming Oceans prequel.
The prequel was first announced in 2022 with Margot Robbie attached to the project to produce and star. At the time, it was claimed that Robbie’s Barbie co-star Gosling was in talks to join the cast.
However, a new update from Deadline tells a different story, making no mention of Gosling, and instead sharing that Cooper is in touching distance of the main role. They also share that the current screenplay is by Carrie Solomon. Twisters director Lee Isaac Chung is set to direct.
The project is expected to delve into the Oceans world before the events of the 2001 heist movie Ocean’s Eleven, but all other plot details are kept under wraps. Nonetheless, earlier reports suggest that the prequel might take place in 1960s Europe, though this has not been confirmed.
The original starred George Clooney, Matt Damon, Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts and was a huge box office hit.
In other news for the franchise, George Clooney recently confirmed that plans for Ocean’s 14 are in full swing at the New York Film Festival while promoting his upcoming film, Jay Kelly. He shared: “We just got the budget approved at Warner Brothers, and we’re trying to set up. It’s just scheduling, so it’s just setting a start date for us. Probably start in about nine or ten months, shooting.”
Elsewhere in Cooper’s career, his version of British comedian John Bishop’s life will hit the big screen in December. The American comedy-drama, Is This Thing On?, is directed by Cooper. He also co-wrote the screenplay with Will Arnett and Mark Chappell. It will premiere at the New York Film Festival on October 10th.
Margot Robbie will next star in Emerald Fennell’s upcoming adaptation of Wuthering Heights. In the movie, Robbie stars as the lead character of Catherine Earnshaw, opposite Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff. It is set for a February 2026 cinematic release.
