Brad Pitt requests to see Angelina Jolie’s private messages amid legal battle
In a new court filing, Brad Pitt has requested to view private messages sent by his ex-wife Angelina Jolie relating to a French winery.
The ongoing dispute relates to the Château Miraval property in Provence they purchased in 2008. Pitt previously accused Jolie of attempting to sell her portion of shares to the Stoli Group without his consent through her company Nouvel.
Pitt first made a legal complaint in 2022, and last year, he was granted access by a judge to view non-disclosure agreements that Jolie had signed due to her refusal to sign an NDA that he previously proposed in relation to purchasing her shares of the winery.
People, who have obtained the new documents filed in the Superior Court of California, claim Pitt’s legal filing alleges that the Russian billionaire, Alexey Oliynik, of the Stoli Group, is refusing to handover relevant documents or appear for deposition. It’s claimed that Oliynik is stating that he doesn’t have to do so due to being a Swiss resident.
Pitt’s filing reportedly states, “These requests go directly to key allegations about Pitt’s objections to the sale”. It also claims that these objections “easily meet the standard for discoverability given Pitt’s allegations that Jolie acted with malice in selling to Stoli, a counterparty she knew Pitt opposed.”
In addition to requesting to see private communications between Oliynik and Jolie, Pitt’s latest legal filing demands that the Stoli Group employee is desposed.
Despite separating in 2016, Pitt and Jolie only finalised their divorce late last year. During a recent interview with GQ, Pitt briefly touched on the divorce, stating, “No, I don’t think it was that major of a thing. Just something coming to fruition. Legally.”
After the divorce was finalised, Jolie’s lawyer, James Simon, said in a statement, “More than eight years ago, Angelina filed for divorce from Mr. Pitt. She and the children left all of the properties they had shared with Mr. Pitt, and since that time, she has focused on finding peace and healing for their family.”
Simon continued: “This is just one part of a long ongoing process that started eight years ago. Frankly, Angelina is exhausted, but she is relieved this one part is over.”
The legal dispute over the French winery continues to rumble on.
