Bonnie Tyler remains “seriously ill but stable”, spokesperson confirms in health update

A spokesperson for Welsh singer Bonnie Tyler has issued a health update amid her hospitalisation in Faro, Portugal.

Last week, it was confirmed that Tyler underwent emergency intestinal surgery in the Algarve, where she has a home, after feeling unwell.

Subsequently, the ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart’ singer was placed into an induced coma, which her spokesperson said was a decision made by doctors “to aid her recovery”.

Portuguese publication Correio de Manhã later reported on May 8th that Tyler suffered a cardiac arrest when doctors attempted to bring her out of the coma.

They also claim that the emergency intestinal surgery was related to the removal of her appendix, which had been ruptured.

Now, in a fresh update, a spokesperson for Tyler told the BBC, “As of this morning, Bonnie remains seriously ill but stable in hospital in Faro, however, her doctors are still positive that she will make a full recovery.”

The spokesperson clarified, “When there is any further news of Bonnie’s condition, then we will issue another statement.”

In the prior Correio de Manhã report, it’s claimed that Tyler initially fell ill in March when she returned to the United Kingdom for a concert at the O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire.

After undergoing tests, where nothing was picked up, she returned to Portugal and began to suffer abdominal pain, causing her to visit a private hospital before being transferred for emergency treatment in Faro.

Her close friend, Liberto Mealha, spoke to ITV’s Good Morning Britain this morning (May 12th), revealing Tyler is currently in intensive care, sharing, “The doctors are positive with the situation, but so far, it’s not that good.”
