Bob Geldof accuses IDF of lying about starvation crisis in Gaza

Bob Geldof has hit out at Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, branding him a “liar” alongside the IDF (Israeli Defence Forces) over the current starvation crisis in Gaza.

The Spokesman for the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office claimed earlier this week that Hamas “starves its own people” during an appearance on The News Hour. He also denied that Israel was responsible for mass hunger in Gaza.

Geldof was asked his opinion on this during an appearance on Sunday Morning with Trevor Phillips. He was adamant that the IDF are “lying. Netanyahu lies, is a liar. The IDF are lying. They’re dangling food in front of starving, panicked, exhausted mothers.”

He also added, “And while they arrive to accept the tiny amount of food that this sort of set up pantomime outfit, the Gaza Humanitarian Front, I would call it, as they dangle it, then they’re shot wantonly.”

There are no crossings into Gaza after Israel closed all exits and entrances in March. Consequently, no supplies have been allowed to enter. On July 26th alone, Israeli forces killed 71 Palestinians in Gaza, including 42 people who were starving and seeking food aid.

Save The Children announced that, as of July 13th, 875 Palestinians have been killed while seeking food, with 201 deaths occurring on aid routes and the rest at distribution points.

Geldof, who is of Jewish heritage and is the Founding Patron of the British Holocaust Museums Aegis Trust for Genocide Studies, also wrote an article in the Daily Express that made his opinions on the conflict clear. Writing to the Israeli people, he said, “Whatever your war aim once was, and however justifiable you felt that to be, at what point did the aim become the deliberate starvation of a terrified, tormented, traumatised population?”

Geldof also recently called out President Donald Trump in a speech at the 40-year Live Aid celebration and album launch at Wembley Stadium. Taking to the stage, Geldof said: “We couldn’t possibly have known that 40 years down the track the world would have to deal with Gaza, Ukraine and Trump, and all that evil, and accept that in Sudan itself millions of children are being forced to starve.”
