Bob Geldof describes Donald Trump as “evil”
Bob Geldof has called out President Donald Trump in a speech at the 40-year Live Aid celebration and album launch at Wembley Stadium.
Taking to the stage, Geldof said: “We couldn’t possibly have known that 40 years down the track that the world has to deal with Gaza, Ukraine and Trump, and all that evil, and accept that in Sudan itself millions of children are being forced to starve.”
This picture of despair and destitution led Geldof to insist that charity still has so much work to do. He then announced Just for One Day – The Live Aid Musical album. “We wake up every day with 10 or 12 emails dictating the latest horror from the hungry lands,” he commented. This will be another fundraising initiative.
The musician is an avid supporter of the show. “The musical is extraordinary,” said Geldof. “My main thing is that it’s politically pertinent. 40 years ago people understood but these days it’s about Freddie and all of that. What the musical does for us is put it in a contemporary perspective.” The cast of the show performed at the 40-year celebration.
The 73-year-old musician and humanitarian worker, who organised the original 1985 event alongside singer Midge Ure, reunited with Midge at Wembley Stadium on May 1st. They were in the very same spot the likes of Elton John, Freddie Mercury and David Bowie wowed a colossal audience.
Recently, Far Out wrote of the original Live Aid: “While Live Aid could have never operated as a cure-all for the issues it sought to address, the pivotal moment in Queen’s legacy also symbolised immaculate power and resilience, pushing the need to incite togetherness even when everything felt like fragmented pieces of a whole.”
The show Just For One Day: The Live Aid Musical is currently available for bookings until January 10th, 2026. Small Change Records will release the cast album on June 11th. ‘Message in a Bottle’ is the first single from the upcoming release, and is available to stream now.
