Bob Britt explains exit from Bob Dylan’s band: “I was not fired”
Guitarist Bob Britt has clarified his departure from Bob Dylan‘s current tour in a new social media post.
Britt has been a member of Dylan’s live band since 2019, but on June 27th, wrote “Sayonara Bobby” on Facebook alongside the image of a plane route from Austin to Nashville.
While the post didn’t take long to get removed, it had already done the rounds within Dylan’s fanbase, which has now led to Britt to make a fresh statement and clear the air.
Taking to Facebook, Britt shared, “Apparently there are quite a few threads out there with people speculating about my departure from the Bob tour.”
He added, “I’d like to clear it up. I was not fired but left of my own accord for reasons I would prefer to keep private. I will miss my band mates and crew.”
With an eye glancing ahead to the future, Britt said he was “looking forward to getting back to doing sessions,” and cryptically sharing, “we will see what the future holds” in regards to his possible plans.
However, for now, Britt is occupied with domestic matters, adding, “Meanwhile, I have some flower beds to weed.”
At Dylan’s first concert since Britt’s exit, which took place in Austin on June 29th, Joel Paterson deputised in the band, according to Ultimate Classic Rock. However, it remains to be seen whether he’s here to stay.
In addition to Britt’s exit, guitarist Doug Lancio also recently departed the group of musicians that back Dylan and he was subsequently replaced by Julian Lage; however, he was reportedly absent for the Austin show.
Dylan’s summer tour is going to keep rolling on and will visit New Braunfels, Texas, tonight (June 30th), before stopping by Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Missouri later this week.
As it stands, Dylan’s tour is set to wrap up in Nashville, Tennessee, on August 1st, 2026.
