Blood Orange announces new album, ‘Essex Honey’, featuring Lorde and Turnstile’s Brendan Yates

Blood Orange has announced the new album, Essex Honey, alongside his previously announced headline tour and star-studded single, ‘The Field’.

Essex Honey will be released on August 29th via RCA Records. Fans can already listen to ‘Somewhere in Between’ and ‘Mind Loaded’. On the record, ‘The Field’ will be sandwiched between those two offerings, making up tracks three, four, and five.

According to a press release, Essex Honey is a reflective work about growing up in Essex and coping with overwhelming grief and loss.

Blood Orange, whose real name is Dev Hynes, will enlist a sizeable army of collaborators to help him towards his goal. In addition to Caroline Polacjek, Daniel Ceaser, Tariq Al-Sabir, who feature on ‘The Field’, as well as Lorde and Mustafa, who feature on ‘Mind Loaded’, the LP will include collaborations from Turnstile’s Brendan Yates, Tirzah, Wet’s Kelly Zutrau, Ian Isiah, Eva Tolkin, and Liam Benzvi.

Hynes has looked outside of the music industry for other collaborators. He will include award-winning author Zadie Smith, who has never sung on an album before, as well as actors Naomi Scott and Amandla Stenberg. The album will consist of 14 tracks.

The previously announced headline tour will span Europe, Canada, and the US, with special shows in London featuring an intimate in-the-round production. Hynes will perform in the middle of the venue for these dates, giving fans a totalising view of his world.

Hynes will likely not fear the crowds despite the size of the shows; in 2022, he opened 15 shows at Madison Square Garden for indie-pop superstar Harry Styles and directed Styles’ Grammy performance of ‘Watermelon Sugar’, in which he also played bass. More recently, he produced songs on Lorde’s new album, Virgin, and appeared on the new Turnstile album, Never Enough.
