The Smashing Pumpkins’ Billy Corgan to star in new reality show
American television network The CW have announced a new reality show surrounding the National Wrestling Alliance, starring the Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan, who is the owner of the organisation.
The National Wrestling Alliance, along with Corgan, announced the exclusive streaming rights deal with The CW on February 21st. Described as an “all-encompassing” partnership, the deal will see various NWA programmes available to stream for free on The CW.
Among the range of new programming surrounding the NWA that will hit The CW, is an unscripted reality show surrounding Corgan himself. The as-yet-untitled programme will follow the Smashing Pumpkins frontman, providing insight into his role as president of the alliance, as well as covering his family life and “day job” as a musician.
Due to premiere on The CW later this year, the reality programme will be co-produced by Corgan’s own company Lightning One Inc alongside Nacelle Company.
In a press release, Corgan shared, “The CW has made a big commitment to sports, and they have an incredible top-tier streaming platform. The network’s audience represents a very wide swath of American culture—which wrestling has always been a key part of. This partnership gives us the opportunity to reach that audience more readily. We’re excited to get the chance to show there are other voices in professional wrestling.”
Sharing his love for the National Wrestling Alliance, Corgan added, “With NWA, there’s honesty, integrity, and a different level of swagger, because it’s coming from the underground. It’s similar to rock ‘n’ roll in this respect.”
The deal will also give The CW exclusive rights to previously aired NWA content, in addition to their long-running television series NWA Powerrr.
