Billy Bob Thornton blasts ‘Landman’ exit rumours as “AI-generated crap”

Billy Bob Thornton has blasted speculation that he could be leaving his role in the Paramount+ hit Landman before its next series as “AI-generated crap”.

The actor made the comments to USA Today over the weekend, after the second series of the Taylor Sheridan show reached its conclusion, fuelling social media rumours that its lead star could be making an exit.

However, Thornton has now sought to dismiss this speculation by telling the publication: “There’s an AI report that Demi [Moore] and I are a couple now, and there’s one that I’m leaving the show,” before adding, “They have nothing to do with reality”.

Following the epic concluding episode of the second series on January 18th, and in light of the news that Landman has once again been renewed for a third season, Thornton emphatically stated: “I’ll be there”.

It means that fans of the show will be seeing his character of Tommy Norris once again, when the new instalment begins shooting again in the spring, according to reports.

Alongside this, iconic Western actor Sam Elliot is also likely to return as Tommy’s father, TL. Regarding the chance to act with the Hollywood stalwart, Thornton added: “It’s been great working with Sam. And I love doing the show. I’ll be here as long as it plays out. If it’s five years, great. If it’s six, I’m there.”

The Oscar-winning actor has garnered critical acclaim for his role in the show, collecting a Golden Globe nomination in 2025 for his role in the first series.

Landman follows the character of Tommy Norris, a landman at the M-Tex Oil Company, who has to take accountability following a fatal incident. However, the penultimate episode of the most recent series served up a massive twist in the tale, as Thornton’s character was ousted from the company.

For the show’s co-creator Sheridan, however, its success is marked by the beginning of the end at his time with Paramount. The showrunner has already moved his filmmaking deal to NBCUniversal, and plans to follow suit with his television projects in 2028.
